ARZA – David Gayle, Chair

Raising the visibility of Israel within the congregation, ARZA leads educational programs, advocates on behalf of Reform principles in Israel, and supports travel to Israel

Board of Education - Marsha Hirschfield, Chair

Works closely with the Education Director in the management and supervision of the Religious School

Building and Grounds – Keni Lorber, Chair

Evaluates and makes recommendations on building and grounds requirements

Family Concern – Sandy Epstein, Chair

Provides additional assistance to members in need – participation is by invitation only

Finance – Lois Simpson, Chair

Develops the annual budget and provides financial recommendations to the Board - participation is by invitation only

Green Shalom – TBD, Chairs

Implements the policy goals and activities outlined in the Temple Emanuel Environmental Policy statement adopted on December 19, 2003.

Information Technology – Scott Witkin, Chair

Maintains the Temple’s computer assets; ensures that the Temple can make use of computing infrastructure to conduct business on a day to day basis; recommends hardware/software for purchase to further the Temple’s aims; sets up and delegates moderators for any Temple list serves; and provides a consulting role for the Temple website

Kulanu – Bobbi and David Fishback, Chair

Supports gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender inclusion

Membership – Debra Berkowitz, Chair

Its responsibility is to recruit new members and to work on membership retention

Personnel - Robert Rich, Chair

Works with the Executive Director in matters pertaining to Human Resources policies and practices

Religious Practices – Bruce Katz, Chair

Assists the clergy in matters pertaining to Religious Practices, including prayer books, High Holiday honors and special projects

Social Justice and Advocacy – Chair TBD

Organizes both advocacy and educational awareness-raising activities relating to social justice; acts as a coordinator of and clearinghouse for information relating to all social justice activities at the Temple (e.g., Global Mitzvah Project, March Mitzvah Madness, Stepping Stones Shelter, etc.)

Temple Emanuel Early Childhood Center Advisory – Joyce Folk, Chair

Ensures integration opportunities for preschool families and assess long-term preschool needs

Youth – Al Tanenbaum, Chair

Sustains and oversees the quality, scope and programming of the synagogue community's youth programs.   It is the liaison between and among the senior youth group (KESTY-Adam Tanenbaum, President), the junior youth group (JTEY), the congregation, and the Youth Group Advisor.  It serves as both the adult advocate for temple youth programming and the agent within the congregation to ensure that the philosophies, policies and standards of the temple are implemented and upheld.

Arts and Aesthetics – At present, this committee is inactive.  Its goal is to provide guidance on art and furnishings in the Temple.

Art in HaMakom – Sue Rudo

Coordinates monthly art exhibits in HaMakom

Community Dinners – Linda Astor

Provides help for a dinner in the Fall and Spring, as well as for the congregational Hanukah dinner

Havurah –Joyce Folk, Interim Chair

Creates and supports Havurot for Temple members

Mailing Mavens –Ruth Skolnick

Helps with Temple mass mailings

Meal of Comfort – Natalie Goldberg

Serves a meal to the family after a funeral

Oneg Coordination – Kathy Magenheim

Works with the entire Temple membership to coordinate the Oneg Shabbat after services

Policies and Procedures – David Gayle

Assists in reviewing Temple policies and procedures                                                                                                                               

Senior Focus – Herb Snyder

Coordinates Senior exercise class and quarterly play readings       

So Others Might Eat (SOME) – Fran Bernstein

Coordinates Temple’s outreach efforts to cook for the poor and homeless through the So Others Might Eat (SOME) Adopt-A-Meal program. If you’re interested in helping us cook, contact Fran Bernstein, Temple Emanuel SOME Coordinator, at 301-495-0754 or fbernstein@afscme.org
